doTERRA BABY!

The secret is out... there's a new baby in our life.
Last month, doTERRA announced the launch of their new baby line- including a body and hair wash, lotion, and diaper rash cream.

I hear ya... "Nicki... why are you ordering this line? You don't have a kid."
You're right!
But I'm here to show you all the way adults and children can use the baby line, and I offer you this to ponder:
-We know that baby products are marketed as "gentle"
-You'll never see the words "free from:" followed by a long list of things more than you will on baby specific items, but do NOT let it fool you...
-Why do we have baby-specific products?; to deepen this thought, at what point did someone decide we were adult-enough to handle chemically loaded shampoo and conditioners, harsh body washes, and fragrance packed lotions? Not sure about you, but I didn't volunteer for that.
Exactly.
It just kinda happened, didn't it?
I want to list for you some of the common things found in beauty and bath products, and challenge you to download the apps Think Dirty and EWG (Environmental Working Group). These handy apps will scan your products barcode and give you a rating of toxicity from 0-10.
For Think Dirty
A rating of 0-3 is considered excellent, and does not contain chemicals known for negative health impacts.
A rating of 4-7 is cautionary... these products may potentially contain some, or traces of harmful ingredients.
A rating of 8-10 have seriously harmful ingredients with extreme potential to disrupt your body's natural ability to function over long periods of time.
For EWG:
1-2 is low hazard, and no known toxins. They use the words robust and good when describing products rated a 1 or 2.
3-6 is the middle ground, and considered to be used sparingly. They use the terms fair and limited when describing products rated 3 to 6.
7-10 is a high hazard, and should be avoided at all cost. They use the term none to describe the amount of use you should have with products rated a 7 to 10.
Now that you're all educated, I'm proud to say that the doTERRA baby line has ingredients rated at a 1 by EWG! (Currently not on Think Dirty, yet)
Although it's really neat to brag about, I can't say I was surprised when I heard this news.
Moving on, why does this matter?
Here's a list of 3 of common chemicals found in beauty and bath products, and the tried and true effects they can have over extended use (say... daily when applying makeup, lotion, perfume... all that stuff we love and have incorporated into our morning and night time routines). This is just the top 3, but as you can imagine the list of no-no's is pretty extensive.
Parabens- widely used preservatives, that have estrogen-mimicking properties that are easily absorbed through the skin and have been found in breast cancer biopsies (yikes!)
Synthetic Colors- the term synthetic automatically turns me away, but for obvious reasons, our bodies are meant to function off anything fake. Since they are commonly derived from petroleum and coal, they have been linked to ADHD in children, and as a skin irritant. Even better, Europe had banned them... what are we waiting on?
Fragrance- gosh, the BEST SMELLS!! Unfortunately, it's a gimmick. The term was created to protect companies "secret smell" but what it actually is... well, we don't know. Our best guess is a variety of mixed chemicals in a lab designed to re-create the natural smells of things we know and love. The long term effects of not knowing this "secret" concoction has been pretty damaging... I see it as this: if you aren't being transparent, then you've got something to hide. Fragrance is ALL around us: detergents, candles, air fresheners, perfumes and colognes (the worst), lotions, soaps,...anything that has a specific scent on the label is probably fragrance. It has been linked to the increase in issues of allergies, respiratory problems, dermatitis, and reproduction. That's a serious enough list for me to want to avoid, what about you?
Alright, now that I've hopefully scared you away from the nasties, let's talk about the not nasty. doTERRA launched this baby line a couple of weeks ago and it sold out in only a matter of a few days. No fear, it's making it's return soon due to popular demand.
Here's a breakdown of the line, and how my husband and I (no kids, just a 4 legged one) use this line on ourselves:
H A I R A N D B O D Y W A S H

If I asked you what a newborn baby smelled like, how would you answer?
-Fresh?
-Clean?
-New?
I tend to think...pure.
Babies are one of the most pure and innocent beings, and although I don't have any of my own yet, that day is coming and I want to provide the absolute best for them. In the meantime, I also want the best for myself.
Until doTERRA released this line, we used Jason. A huge fan, but being personally connected to doTERRA and their mission, we have used up the last of it and are now using this delicate, lightweight wash as our go-to for clean bodies. It cleans without eliminating the natural moisturizers from the skin, which I adore. As for hair, we continue to use the slightly more powerful doTERRA Shampoo and Conditioner (this mane needs taming...)
It is tear free, has a touch of Roman Chamomile and Lavender essential oil, as well as hints of Vanilla Extract. I am waiting for the day computers feature a smell feature, but until then, imagine in your head what a baby smells like and here you've got it bottled up in a convenient, leak proof, super cute wash.
L O T I O N

Holy smooth!!
This was the first product of the line that I tried, and now I'm utterly hooked. Again, smells like a baby (how do they do that?)
I'll admit: I'm kind of a lotion snob. I'm embarrassingly picky about the "thickness" or "thin-ness" of lotions and would rather have dry itching skin than a glop of a mess with a bad, greasy lotion. Frankly, I was worried this one might be on the heavier side since it's really gotta stay on moving little ones and lock in that moisture. Lemme just say, it's wonderful. Thick enough to feel, lightweight enough to absorb quickly, and no greasy leftover. Bonus: it's got an "after-feel" like satin.
I love to use it after freshly shaving my legs, on dry elbows, and has a hand cream. David loves it as a massage lotion and soothing after shave (although doTERRA's new Men's Amavi line with after-shave will probably replace this)
Combines Muyao Shea Butter with natural humectants (holds in moisture), Roman Chamomile and Lavender essential oils, and that hint of Vanilla again, So soothing, so calming, so serene, so gentle.

This one is my favorite "adult" uses, because, I mean hello, it's diaper rash cream.
Thank goodness for my Oily Tribe for cluing me into the fact that this cream is 25% Non Nano-Zinc Oxide which is a natural SUNSCREEN! Get out. Diaper Rash Cream can be used as Sunscreen!? Currently trying to find out what SPF this offers...stay tuned.
This is big news for me because I've been using Red Raspberry Oil and Babyganics for sunscreen, but have been on a mission to find something a little stronger without sacrificing all natural ingredients. Beauty Counter has some great options, but it's so pricy for our budget, in my most humble opinion.
Some more adult ways to use: on razor burn, ingrown hairs, de-flame blemishes, eczema and skin rashes, chafing, prevent under arm sweat, and tattoo healing. Talk about a Jack/Jill of all trades... and diaper rash cream of all things!
• No Parabens
• No Phthalates
• No Propylene Glycol
• No Artificial Colors
• No Petrolatum
• No Mineral Oil
• No Talc
For now, we gladly welcome doTERRA's new bundle of joy into our home as our baby (in addition to Beau).
The whole kit sells for:
$46.00 retail... and $34.50 wholesale (the way to go!)
Safer, affordable, garunteed good for you products, what's better than that?
Naturally,
Nicki
